Intro to Creative Programming

This is the new diagram which has more detail about how it works.

It is a tragedy that the technician in 3D Printer Lab told me my design is totally can’t print because there are so many details on the surface so that printers are not strong enough to print it out. Hence, the previous one which i showed to Alex and Lauren this Monday could not make it to be reality. Now i am doing another 3D mode and make sure it would be printed. But, it means my sculpture could not be exquisite like the previous one….sucks…..

This is the previous one which i showed to Alex and Lauren before. I spent my whole thanksgiving break to make this. And the 3D printer can’t print this, can i say the word which the first letter is “F” ? No?  So, i have nothing to say.

The new one which the printer can make sure to print it out….

I am not very satisfied with the second one. Because it just i want to make sure that the printer could print it out. But it  not very match with my pattern and my concept. So finally i did this, i will talk about the relation between the sculpture and the pattern, the concept, and why i make these shape(include the first one and the second one) on next monday.

So it is still on the way of printing….Hope it could be good…I kind of doubt the 3D Printer now….

Technical Problem Solved : Rhinoceros/ Thanks to my high 3D skill friend Mr. Su for answering my stupid questions…

I am still on the way of modifying the code. And i am not very good at using RHINOCEROS so i still need to fixed the shape of sculpture.

I want to figure out the way of interaction today. And do the test this week.

I have already finished the Processing coding for my video. But i still need to fix them and make the pattern more interesting.

Now i am using RHINOCEROS to make  my sculpture and will use 3D PRINTER to cut it on this Friday ( 11.23.2012).The material of this sculpture is ABS plastic. This is a durable strong plastic, and it would be nice for this sculpture.

For the interaction, i am also searching the information of sensor now. But i do have some problems of physical interactive progress. so i have already sent my question to Lauren today and hope can get some feedbacks.

TIMELINE

So far, I still on the way of exploring how to use Processing to make more possible of data visualization. As I mentioned about my idea of final project last Monday, it would be a little difficult but have possible (for sure) to complete it, “the emotional data”.The next six(maybe five) weeks I will first still pay more attention on the data visualization. Because this would be my first goal of this class.So I think this week and next week I will still explore “Processing” and fixed my pattern, as you know, the pattern which will be shown in final project. From Oct 29 to Nov 12.

The second step would be the completion of physical interaction. From now on, I still have no idea and did not explore the things of materials(which would be used for 3D cutting, the real object of controller) , Arduino, the shape of sculpture(the controller’s shape), Sensor etc. I think these are all depends on the pattern which I am sure it would be my final project’s data visualization. I will spend 3 weeks on these things:

From Nov 12 to Nov 19(the first week), I will make sure of what kind of materials shall I choose, the shape of sculpture, using “RHINOCEROS” to make the 3D mode and using 3D printer to finish the cutting. Cutting could run through the next week, no more than 2 days.

From Nov19 to Nov 26 (the second week), After the controller production (3D mode cutting) completed. I want to think about the sensor and Arduino. As you know, the physical interaction is just the thing which can help me to show my concept. It would be my first step to explore the new possibility of art form. So, I suppose this week would be very hard and tough. I will keep touching with you(and Alex if i can) and hope you can help me : )

From Nov 26 to Dec 3 (the third week), I think this week would be the final week which I will do a lot of tests about combination of Processing, controller and physical interaction. And Dec 3 would be the party day.

This timeline just the basic plan.Because every problem will run through these 6(maybe 5)weeks. In my view, the first 2 weeks are my own time to further my skill of Processing, this is the most significant thing of why I choose this class. I hope after this class, at least I can have confidence in using Processing. The last 3 weeks would be the very important weeks which I should finish my final project to show my concept. I hope I can get high execution of my first step about physical interaction. Even though I have no experience of it, but I should start my footsteps.
